The NGT (New Generation Transceiver) has been around for a few years
now.
It boasts a compact handset/control head that can have user programmable
hot keys and Digital Signal Processing.
I have been using one for a while now
and can say that the DSP is marvellous.
OPTION A. Codan have recently announced that the amateur option will be made available for the NGT. This will allow free tuning throughout the various amateur bands. It has been made free in Australia with the following conditions.
1) You must produce your current amateur licence
2) It is not the final release. It is not supported at this stage
3) The radio must have firmware version 3.14. The junction box must have version 3.11
4) Your Codan dealer will need to provide your RF unit Electronic Serial Number, so an 'unlock' code can be generated and entered.
5) Although the option itself is free at this time, the dealer is quite within their rights to charge for the time obtaining the code and updating firmware if necessary.
It is believed that the final version will be available late 2003. Hopefully this will be offered to overseas models.
