CODAN 9323 Series

The 9323 and family of radios were designed as a replacement for the
faithful 8525/8528 series. Released in 1993 there were 6 Radios in the family.
The 9780 was released in 1997 bringing the line up to 7 models.

9323,9360,9390,9780 - 400 channel, Transmit range depends on PA option fitted and model, Receive 250khz to 30Mhz. Selcall, two-tone and RFDS emergency call facilities. The 9390 was the marine version and offers Marine distress calling on 2182khz. It has 400 channels and 250 fixed ITU (Radphone) channels.
The 9780 is a 15 channel radio
The 9323 produces 100 watts PEP of power (reduced to 10 watts for CB band)
All other radios produce 125 watts PEP

They are all programmed via the microphone socket with a PC running the CODAN XP software. It is not possible to
program these radios via the rear RS232 port.

The 9323,9360,9390 and 9780 can also be programmed from the front panel by the user.

Certain options in these radios are 'woken' by entering a unique code that is dependant on the radios serial number.
See an authorised Codan dealer for more information.
Some of the options available;
ALE - Automatic Link Establishment
LF - 1.6 to 2.25Mhz Transmit
PH - Headphones
AM - AM mode transmission
GPS - GPS interface
GP - General Purpose interface for use with modem etc
Selcall
F - Fan for continuos data transmission
M - Morse key
CW - 9360 with 500Hz LPF
D - Remote diagnostics (9780)

With the right combination of these options, these series of radios would have made a fantastic amateur set.
It is believed this option was never made available however.

There is some speculation if Option AD was offered to make use of the older 8558 autotune. They will happily drive the current 9350 auto tune antenna.

The 9323 uses the 9330 control head

The 9360 uses the 9366 control head

The 9390 marine radio.

X-2 - A 10 channel radio operating 2 to 18mhz. Two antenna sockets are fitted. Software programmable, RFDS call and LSB available as options.Cloning ability via Mic sockets without software.

9313 and 9480 - 15 channel radios, selcall capability. Transmit 2 to 24 mhz, Receive 250khz to 30Mhz. Both transceivers will drive a 9350 or 8558 antenna. Option AD is required for the 8558. These radios appear to be a rebadged 8528 with the ability to be programmed via PC instead of EPROM.

9313 available in remote control only.USB only.100 watts PEP. RFDS emergency call.
9480 available in local or remote control.USB & LSB. 125 watts PEP.
CW capable. The 9480 is the international version of the 9313. It does not support telcall. It can be converted by changing firmware and control head.

PROGRAMMING THE RADIO

P CHANNELS

NOTE: DO NOT PROGRAM/USE FREQUENCIES YOU ARE NOT LICENSED FOR

Firstly, you need to remove the bottom cover of the set and locate the TPE
link located on the Microprocessor and Audio PCB. This pair of
solder pads needs to be shorted on power-up of the radio. The radio will
then power up into the "Transmit Program Enable" mode. All other functions of the
radio are inhibited. You can then modify existing channels or program
additional channels as you would program a recieve only channel....just enter the
TX freq when asked.Once all programming is complete, turn the set off then on again.
Channels will be installed. This gives access to the whole EEPROM,
not just the 99 P channels as in the 8528.

Simply solder a wire to each of these pads and ran a switch to the back
of the set, so you don't have to remove the cover each time. Simple.

VIA SOFTWARE

Contact you local Codan agent to have your radio reprogrammed using XP Software.
Please do not contact me and ask for the XP software. I am unable to provide it.

TRY THIS...

Transmitting from the Free tuning receiver. Thanks to Mike for re-wording this one!

NOTE: DO NOT PROGRAM/USE FREQUENCIES YOU ARE NOT LICENSED FOR

From Free Tune Recv, program a receive-only channel (ENTER, F1)with USB/LSB enabled (LU) and Emergency Selcall off (E-)

From this channel, enter the Free Tuning Receiver (MODE MODE MODE) and tune to the frequency you wish to transmit on.

Press  'EMGNCY' and the radio should then beep at you and say 'Not Enable', and then go back to the Memory Channel. On Receive it will show the Channel frequency BEFORE you tuned, BUT, the transmit inhibit line above the frequency will be removed. Despite the display, the radio is actually still receiving on the frequency that you tuned to. You can select USB and LSB..(Note - Option ES or Emergency Selcall MUST be disabled or the radio will start searching for your pre programmed emergency channels!)

On transmit it will show 65,535, but it will transmit to the tuned frequency, rather than the memory Channel frequency that is displayed. There is no access to tone call or selcall. Voice Tx only.
